Employers conclude a framework agreement with a leasing provider and manage everything digitally. There are no additional costs, and you often even save on non-wage labor costs. The process is simple and legally secure.
Offering your employees company bike leasing via Lease a Bike is cost-neutral for the employer. The employer even saves on non-wage labor costs such as municipal tax, DB and DZ.
Yes. The private use of a company bicycle is tax-free in Austria - there is no benefit in kind and it is not subject to income tax.
Part of the gross salary is used to finance the bicycle. As this reduces the assessment basis for taxes and duties, the monthly deductions are reduced - the bike becomes cheaper. It should be noted that the offer only becomes significantly more attractive for employees if they earn at least the total rate of the bicycle above the collective agreement. Only then can the great advantage of salary conversion be applied. Of course, allowances, lump sums and other recurring remuneration from the employment relationship can also be included.
In the event of termination, whether by the employer or the employee, there are several options for dealing with the active leasing contract:
1. the company bike can be handed over to a colleague and the contract continues under the same conditions.
2. the company bike can be taken to the new employer, provided the new employer is also a Lease a Bike customer.
3. the company bike can be bought out of the contract at the currently calculated residual value.
4. the leasing contract is terminated without incurring any costs. This means that the company bike will be collected by agreement with Lease a Bike or returned to a Lease a Bike partner dealer. No further costs are incurred.
A premature termination of a leasing contract is possible in certain cases, even during the agreed contract period of 36 or 48 months. Feel free to contact us regarding this.
With salary conversion, part of your contractually agreed salary is not paid out in cash, but instead provided as a benefit in kind for the duration of the company bike lease.
This means that an additional agreement to your employment contract is made, in which your future salary is reduced by a fixed amount (usually equivalent to the leasing rate) for the duration of the bike usage agreement – with mutual consent.
The salary that is subject to income tax and social security contributions is therefore calculated based on the reduced amount after deducting the leasing rate.
Important: Due to current legal regulations, salary conversion is only possible for income that exceeds the collective agreement minimum!

A user change is generally possible during the contract period. This is usually due to the discontinuation of salary payments to the employee – for example, when they leave the company.
In the event of discontinued salary payments—e.g. due to termination of employment, extended sick leave, parental leave, or other possible reasons—we always work together to find the best solution for all parties involved.
This may include, for example:
User change: You assign the company bike to another employee for the remainder of the contract term and take all necessary internal steps (e.g. amending the employment contract, transferring the company bike, etc.).
Early mutual termination of the existing leasing contract for important economic reasons, with the option for the employee to take over the used company bike.
Company change: It is possible to transfer the existing leasing contract to a new employer. This requires the consent of both companies. After a successful credit check and registration with Lease a Bike, the new employer continues the contract with all rights and obligations, and the company bike remains assigned to the employee for the remaining term.

Yes, provided that the salary exceeds the collective agreement minimum.
As an employee, there are a few simple steps to follow:
1. registration in the Lease a Bike portal: This step is carried out either via a landing page or via a registration link shared by the employer.
2. verification: The email address provided must then be verified.
3. approval by the employer: The employer checks the registration and then approves the registration.
4. receipt of the order code: Employees receive an order code by e-mail.
5. selection of the bike at a Lease a Bike partner dealer: Employees can then visit a Lease a Bike partner dealer and select a bike in accordance with the company guidelines. The dealer enters the data into the Lease a Bike portal.
6. acceptance of the lease agreement: In the next step, employees accept the leasing contract digitally in the Lease a Bike portal.
7. approval of the leasing application: Now the final approval of the employer is still missing.
8. pick-up: Once approval has been given, employees receive a four-digit pick-up PIN with which they can pick up the bike.
For anyone who cycles regularly - whether for commuting, leisure or sport - and would like to use a high-quality bike at favorable conditions.
This depends on the guidelines of the respective company where the employee is employed.
As the gross salary is slightly reduced by the salary conversion, this can have a minimal effect on the contribution base for pension insurance. In practice, however, the effect is usually very small.

The leasing rate stated in the supplementary agreement to the employment contract does not correspond to the actual costs for your company bike.
The leasing rate is stated as a net and gross amount. If your employer is entitled to deduct input tax, the net leasing rate is usually offset against your gross monthly salary. This reduces your taxable gross monthly salary. Accordingly, your taxes are reduced.
If your employer is not entitled to deduct input tax, the gross leasing rate is deducted from your gross monthly salary.
As long as you are overpaid under the collective agreement, you are entitled to lease a company bike. If you earn exactly according to the collective agreement or less, please contact the responsible person in your company.
With salary conversion, you receive part of your contractually agreed salary not in cash but as a non-cash benefit for the period during which you use the company bicycle.
This means that a change is made via a so-called supplementary agreement to the employment contract, in which your future salary is mutually agreed to be reduced by a fixed amount (usually equal to the conversion rate) for the duration of the transfer of use.
This results in a significant tax advantage for you. You can easily calculate what this means for your personal situation here: Calculator
In the event of a loss of continued remuneration, e.g., termination of employment due to prolonged absence due to illness, parental leave, or other possible reasons, we will always work with you to find the best solution, including individual, cost-neutral return for you as an employer, unless one of the following options is possible or applicable.

Yes, self-employed people can also take part in company bike leasing and use the bike or e-bike privately.
Purely private leasing is generally not possible. Bike leasing works via an existing employment relationship or - in the case of self-employed persons - via your own company.
The leasing rates for company bicycles are considered operating expenses in business terms. This means that companies eligible for input tax deduction can deduct the VAT included in the conversion rate. Employees then convert the net leasing rates, resulting in even greater savings.
Companies that are not eligible for input tax deduction, on the other hand, convert the leasing rate including sales tax, so that the savings for employees are slightly lower.
As part of the comprehensive protection, every Lease a Bike company bicycle is insured against theft around the clock if the company bicycle was locked. It will always be replaced at replacement value and an object exchange will be made in the existing contract. As a rule, it is not necessary to terminate the existing contract. Of course, this does not affect the lessee's special right of termination in accordance with the terms of the lease agreement, with a claim for compensation from the lessor at the settlement value of the contract on the date of the damage. When reporting damage to us, it is of course important to provide a police file number as part of the required theft report in the event of theft.
The term “damage” covers all sudden and unforeseeable damage or destruction to the service bike, such as:
A flat tire is not considered damage in this sense. Flat tires on a Lease a Bike company bike are always covered by the annual wear and tear budget included in the comprehensive protection package.
Every Lease a Bike company bike comes with a mandatory comprehensive protection package when the contract is signed, with an individually selected annual wear and tear budget. This covers all repairs necessary to restore operational safety, as well as repairs due to wear and tear. The following wear parts are included, among others.
Since the leasing application and the supplementary agreement to the employment contract were already created systematically during the application process with confirmation of the bike and accessories and selection of the appropriate comprehensive protection package, it is no longer possible to add accessories at a later date.
In this case, you can delete the created lease application/additional agreement to the employment contract via our service staff and then create it again with the desired accessories. In such a case, simply contact us.
We regularly offer training courses for specialist retailers.
The courses cover the concept, processes from the perspective of specialist retailers, and the legal basis of service bike leasing.
The training courses are free of charge and take place online. This allows as many employees from your team as possible to participate.
After you have participated in one of our training courses, you will be listed as a “certified specialist bike dealer” on our website. Potential customers will then be directly informed that you can provide them with the best advice on company bike leasing with Lease a Bike.
As a registered bicycle specialist retailer, you will be notified in advance by email of the next training dates.

All service packages include an initial inspection in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations or specifications in the first year of leasing, costing up to EUR 60 gross, as well as an inspection from the 13th and 25th month of leasing, costing up to EUR 99 gross. The costs of the inspections are deducted from the respective annual service budget and are only borne by BMS if sufficient service budget is still available in the respective year.
The company bike is covered as standard in the event of theft and damage (at its original value). This means that the lessor, as the owner, assumes the risk for sudden and unforeseeable damage or destruction to the leased object, e.g. in the event of:
• Theft, burglary, or robbery
• Operating errors
• Simple negligence
• Accident damage
• Vandalism
• Overvoltage, induction, or implosion
• Storm, frost, ice drift, earthquake, or flooding
• Damage to the motor or battery
The comprehensive protection package also includes:
The service and maintenance budget—you can choose between the following packages:
Basic: The wear and tear budget is up to $100 per year.
Premium: The wear and tear budget is up to $300 per year.
All-inclusive: No limit on the wear and tear budget.
& The mobility guarantee.
Our Europe-wide mobility guarantee (including 24/7 breakdown assistance) is included in all three comprehensive protection packages and protects users and the leased vehicle in the event of incidents (e.g., accidents). A comprehensive network of service providers and qualified employees are available around the clock.
All advantages at a glance:
Our theft and damage protection covers all sudden and unforeseeable damage or destruction to the leased object, such as:
Unless it is locked away, the company bicycle must be secured with a standard brand-name lock (with a minimum value of €49.99) and attached to an object firmly anchored to the ground. Protection is provided 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Damage/theft must always be reported to us by the specialist dealer using a form. In the event of theft, it is essential to report the incident to the police (file number). Employers must also be informed immediately as lessees in the event of damage.
The damage report can be easily submitted by the specialist retailer via our portal.
The specialist retailer can access the online form by clicking on the “Damage & Theft” button in the menu.
This online form makes it easy to submit the claim digitally. After review, the specialist retailer will receive approval and confirmation of cost coverage from us.
Reimbursement of costs to the specialist retailer will be made directly by us upon receipt of the invoice.
Note: To ensure fast processing of the claim, it must be submitted exclusively by the specialist retailer.

Every Lease a Bike company bike comes with a mandatory comprehensive protection package when the contract is signed, with an individually selected annual wear and tear budget. We use this to cover all necessary repairs to restore operational safety, as well as repairs due to wear and tear. The following wear parts are included, among others.
The difference between the three comprehensive protection packages lies in the annual budget for service and wear and tear work. Depending on which package you choose, you will have an annual budget of $100, $300, or unlimited wear and tear budget for maintenance work.
All three packages include theft and damage protection and mobility guarantee, which is valid throughout Europe.
In order for the leasing bank to be liable in the event of theft, the bicycle must be locked (minimum value €49.99) to an object firmly anchored to the ground, not just parked but also locked. The lock can be leased, or if you already own such a lock, the invoice for it can be submitted to us and filed.
No, bike leasing with Lease a Bike is not only cost-neutral for companies, it is actually cost-efficient. As an employer, you even save money! Non-wage labor costs such as municipal tax, DB, and DZ are reduced.
Unlike other providers, Lease a Bike does not charge service fees per leased bike, nor does it charge a service fee for using our platform—these are often hidden costs!
In Austria, a legal transaction fee must be paid for each lease agreement.
The fee is generally 1% of the value of the agreed consideration.
With Lease a Bike, you don't have to worry about this—we take care of it, and it is already included in our price.
In certain cases, it is possible to terminate a lease agreement prematurely, even during the agreed contract term of 36 or 48 months. Please feel free to contact us for more information.
In the event of a loss of continued remuneration, e.g., termination of employment due to prolonged absence due to illness, parental leave, or other possible reasons, we will always work with you to find the best solution, including individual, cost-neutral return for you as an employer, unless one of the following options is possible or applicable.
This could be, for example:
Transfer of the lease agreement to another employee
The employer takes all necessary internal measures (e.g., supplementary agreements to the employment contract, handover of the company bike, etc.) and ensures that the new user is registered on the Lease a Bike portal. Lease a Bike takes care of the name transfer. The transfer is free of charge.
Early, cost-neutral termination of the lease agreement
The employer can request the early termination of the lease agreement by mutual agreement. We will assist you with the process.
In some cases, Lease a Bike offers companies early, cost-neutral termination of existing individual leasing contracts. The conditions for this are specified in the cooperation agreement.
Lease a Bike offers employees a company bike on request at a currently expected purchase price of 10% (for a 48-month contract) or 15% (for a 36-month contract).
When the employee takes possession of the bicycle, a monetary benefit arises. This amount is automatically transferred to the payroll accounting system via our platform. The costs are already taken into account in our calculator.
It is possible to use multiple company bikes. This depends on the employer's company policy.
The term of the contracts for company bicycles is generally 36 or 48 months.
With salary conversion, you receive part of your contractually agreed salary not in cash but as a non-cash benefit for the period during which you use the company bicycle.
This means that a change is made via a so-called supplementary agreement to the employment contract, in which your future salary is reduced by a fixed amount (usually equal to the conversion rate) for the duration of the transfer of use.
The assessment basis after deduction of a leasing rate thus affects income tax and social security contributions.
Please note: Due to the current legal situation, salary conversion is only possible for collective agreement-based remuneration!
You can easily calculate how this applies to your personal situation here: Leasing calculator
Salary conversion reduces the basic salary. However, if special payments continue to be paid on the basis of the original salary, this can lead to a so-called surplus of one sixth of the annual salary. This surplus is then taxable at the normal tax rate.
This can be taken into account in our calculator.
Special payments can still be paid based on the original salary and are therefore not affected by the salary conversion.
Yes. Due to tax advantages and social security savings, leasing a bike is usually significantly cheaper - up to 40% - than buying one directly, especially for more expensive models such as e-bikes.
As the gross salary is slightly reduced by the salary conversion, this can have a minimal effect on the contribution base for pension insurance. In practice, however, the effect is usually very small.
Depending on salary, tax class and model, savings of 30-40% are possible compared to buying a bike. For the self-employed, the savings can be even higher thanks to additional tax benefits.
The residual value generally depends on the term of the contract. For a 36-month term, it is 15% of the initial purchase price, for 48 months 10%.
With bike leasing in Austria, your employer provides you with a bike or e-bike that you can also use privately. The costs are deducted from your gross salary each month - this saves on taxes and is cheaper than buying a bike. At the end of the term, you can often take over the bike.
Purely private leasing is generally not possible. Bike leasing works via an existing employment relationship or - in the case of self-employed persons - via your own company.

The right frame size depends on your height and stride length. Individual advice from a specialist dealer and a test ride will help you find the right bike.
Almost all common models that can be purchased from a bicycle dealer can be leased - from city bikes and trekking bikes to racing bikes, cargo bikes and e-bikes. Selected accessories can also be included.
